Biography

Onoe, Atsushi

Painter / Architect based in Basel

Atsushi Onoe is a visual artist based in Basel, Switzerland.  He explores the relationship between the perception of space and the actual space, namely tableau and the three-dimensional world we live in.  He engages with two art forms in order to see, examine and interpret how painting has been capturing the space.  He works with manipulated planes to paint and create surfaces that define the space.

After he studied under a contemporary painter Nobuhiko Utsumi, Kiyoko Taki and graphic designer Keiko Motonaga, he studied architecture at Kyoto Institute of Technology and obtained BSc in Architecture.  He settled in Basel soon after he received MSc in Architecture at Università della Svizzera italiana, Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio.

Besides his work as an architect, he has an atelier for his own practice in art in Basel.  He has been showcasing his works in Europe and Japan since 2015.
